The world of economics is complex. Understanding that world requires education in basic economic concepts and their application to a multitude of economic issues. As students grow and learn, economic attitudes and opinions take shape and influence thoughts and actions over a lifetime. Consequently, educators need to know the nature of the relationship between cognitive and affective domains in economics learning. This article focuses on the development of economic attitudes, opinions, and economic understanding in students and adults. The first section explains the rationale for the interest in economic attitudes and opinions. The second section clarifies distinctions between the terms attitudes, opinions, beliefs, and values. The next two sections discuss the measurement of these affective constructs and provide classroom applications. The final section reports research findings on how attitude and economic understanding affect each other and the implications for classroom teaching
