La relation entre développement économique et urbanisation a fait l'objet de nombreux travaux théoriques et empiriques dont les résultats sont souvent contrastés. Nous montrons que le taux d'urbanisation et la primatie urbaine tendent à suivre, sous le jeu de certaines forces économiques, des trajectoires particulières au cours des différentes étapes de développement d'un pays. En contrepoint, nous discutons également de l'impact spécifique de l'ouverture internationale sur la concentration urbaine
