La simulation sociale est un domaine de recherche dont les principes explicites sont la formalisation informatique des processus sociaux. Il s’agit ici d’interroger cette méthode d’« expérience de pensée » assistée par informatique, où des agents « autonomes, hétérogènes, et à la rationalité limitée en interactions locales dans un espace défini » (Epstein, 1999) reproduisent des phénomènes dynamiques dits « bottom-up ».
