Este trabalho tem por objetivo central entender o cenário de violência que correlaciona, em uma mesma totalidade histórica, grilagem de terras, destruição das matas, dizimação das populações indígenas e expulsão de posseiros, durante a ocupação inicial do Pontal do Paranapanema, entre 1850 e 1930. Para este fim, baseia-se em um conjunto de fontes bastante variado, tais como relatos de viagem, dados geográficos e estatísticos da região
