Mapping Early American Elections spatially presents congressional elections in the early American republic. The Web site consists of individual state maps displaying returns for elections to the First Congress through the Nineteenth Congress (1788–1825). Maps break down results by county, yielding a fine-grained view of the early American political landscape. Based at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University and funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the project launched in April 2017 and released its final content in May 2019. Users can download the project's dataset and can follow detailed tutorials to make their own maps. Blog posts and scholarly essays offer interpretative information and thorough explanations for how data were mapped, including the correlation of election results to historical county borders. Mapping Early American Elections conveys election returns, with a minimum of interpretation, equipping historians to formulate stimulating research questions through unfiltered access to these compelling maps
