The Reformation in Sweden, a national and a political liberation. The spread of the Reformation in Sweden was not connected with a social and economic crisis nor with a visible deterioration of worship and doctrine. But the bishops became involved in political party struggles. The party in favour of an independent Sweden stood out against the representatives of the Catholic Church. Reformation ideas spreading from Germany to Sweden through some preachers offered an alternative. A national Church closely linked with the king was established. But only after several decades did Lutheranism make its mark upon the churches, customs and ways of thinking
