Banque et crédit à Lille de 1800 à 1939

Lille, an industrial centre witnesses only belatedly the creation of an organised banking network. This latter grows only after 1848 with the establishment of numerous regional banks ; the major national institutions establish themselves in 1865 and 1881. After several years of hardship, most of these companies enjoy an exceptional prosperity between the end of the XIXth century and 1914. The war over, business conditions have changed. Financial crashes foreign to the city and the lasting depression generate a period of instability, at the end of which the picture of the Lille banking world is durably altered
