This article critically examines the processes by which transitional justice mechanisms have been institutionalized in Peru, with a specific focus on the ways this socio-legal industry mobilizes and legitimates particular modalities of victimhood —while simultaneously disappearing and delegitimizing others—. The article considers the ways in which newly enacted laws redefine the social and political space within which the concept of victimhood assumes meaning and significance thereby constructing and deconstructing different collective subjects (the "victims") as well as new political subjectivities
