Thot and the speech This article examines the role of the Egyptian god Thot as god of the speech. Master of hieroglyphs and language, the god of eloquence Thot also formulates a creative utterance within a cosmogonie process : the main sources regarding this aspect of Thot will be analysed. Other aspects related to this theme such as Thot's oracular function and the intellectual capacities attributed to his emblematic animals (the baboon and the ibis) are taken into consideration. And finally the question of divine language will lead us towards the Greco-Egyptian hermetism
