Studies the relation of consciousness to the distinction between mental and physical facts. Views that consciousness is independent of the thought of the difference between mind and body, but not independent of the actual difference itself. Consciousness precedes the distinction but does not precede the difference and ontologically the difference is present perceptually. Consciousness is either the generical mark of all psychical processes, or of one special of the processes of knowing function. Suggests that since consciousness means an independent function, consciousness can be designated as, the common and generic features of the psychic acts, for which its historic breadth of usage is well adapted.
