A leitura do Pe. Antônio vieira sobre os impasses econômicos do Império lusitano * The reading of father Antonio Vieira about the economic predicaments of Portuguese Empire

Este artigo pretende analisar parte da obra do Pe. António Vieira, em especial algumas de suas cartas e sermões, considerando o discurso e os pressupostos econômicos apresentados pelo religioso para a nação portuguesa e as terras coloniais, destacando as propostas elaboradas para garantir a soberania da nação lusitana e a legitimidade da dinastia de Bragança. Vieira valeu-se do púlpito para efetuar um discurso político e econômico que emergia da mensagem religiosa. Neste sentido, o nosso objetivo foi o de compreender o denso discurso do Pe. António Vieira a partir do contexto histórico e das estruturas sociais do século XVII, captando como se processou o imbricamento da religiosidade, da política e da economia no pensamento desse religioso.Palavras-chave: Jesuítas - Colônia - Economia - Padre Antônio Vieira. Abstract: This article intends to analyze priest Antonio Vieira's work, especially some letter and sermons of him, considering the discourse and the economic purposes presented by the religious to the Portuguese nation and the colonial lands, pointing out the proposals elaborated in order to guarantee the Lusitanian nation sovereignty and the Bragança dynasty legitimacy. Vieira used the pulpit to make a politic and economic speech which emerged from a religious message. This way, our objective was to understand priest Antonio Vieira's dense discourse from the historical context and the social structures of the seventeenth century taking one processed the superposition of religiosity, politics and of the economy of the religious thought.Keywords: Jesuit - Colony - Economy - Antonio Vieira priest
