This article aims to apply the concept of intersectionality, intertwined with the notion of the tragic, as proposed by Terry Eagleton (2013), in the analysis of the character Mother Susana from Firminiano's novel Úrsula (1859). Through this character, the study explores the convergence of multiple intersecting dimensions of social oppression, including gender, race, violence, deprivation of freedom, usurpation of identity, and belonging. Slavery in nineteenth-century Brazil constituted a national tragedy and a disgrace sanctioned by both the government and the patriarchal society of the time. Drawing on the works of Patricia Hill Collins and Sirma Bilge (2021), bell hooks (2019), and Eduardo Duarte (2018), this research conducts a critical analysis of this significant piece of Brazilian literature, with a specific focus on the enslaved character mentioned. The methodology employed for this study is based on a comprehensive literature review to provide a solid foundation for the proposed approach
