Two Hadrianic‐early Antonine buildings, one in an administrative complex for a vast Imperial Estate in the Fenland of England, the other just north of Rome, can be shown to be remarkably similar. It is suggested that they follow a trend set by Hadrian himself in the building of prestigious tower‐like structures, a type of 'display architecture
