Geometric properties of flakes allow reasonably accurate estimates of their volume when flake thickness is known. Recorded histograms of flake thickness allow calculation of typical numbers of flakes in each size range. Alternatively, randomizing flake thickness while reducing a typical volume of quarried rock to create a synthetic histogram provides a count of the number of flakes in each size range. High levels of correlation between data, experiment, and independent methods of modeling indicate an accurate reconstruction of Folsom practices of extracting tools and weaponry from quarried nodules. Relationships developed by this study provide a benchmark against which new archaeological data can be evaluated
