Since its establishment as a municipality in 2004, the population of Alto Hospicio has tripled. This growth is primarily driven by young individuals engaged in low-paid, informal workers, as well as immigrants in both regular and irregular situations. The number of homes has also doubled, and many informal settlements are concentrated, with one of the largest numbers of families in the country. This article aims to document the changes that have occurred within these settlements in recent years. The analysis commences by providing information about the socio-spatial context of the city. Specifically, it focuses on a particular informal settlement where the protagonists of four life stories, presented in this article, reside. Through a combination of documentary and bibliographic sources, the article sheds light on the transformations experienced on the city’s margins. Key topics explored include the relationship between housing and informal work, as well as the barriers to accessing formal land and housing production
