The present study proposes the analysis of Macunaíma in its literary and cinematographic versions. The focus are excerpts from the two works that demonstrate his contexts of production, Literary Modernism for Mário de Andrade and Cinema Novo for Joaquim Pedro de Andrade. The analysis was carried out from the point of view of the carnivalization proposed by Bakhtin, so that the purpose of the authors is, among others, to promote the criticism to the brazilian society, that lived submissive to european standards
