Les AA. critiquent les conceptions qui considerent la structure et la position dans le reseau social que forme le monde des affaires comme l'explication des phenomenes de concentration aux Etats-Unis dans les annees 1960. Les resultats obtenus selon cette perspective peuvent, selon eux, vouloir dire autre chose. Il convient de souligner le role joue par les ressources financieres des entreprises. Il faut etudier comment se structurent, apparaissent, prennent sens les relations entre entreprises dans leur contexte institutionnel, historique et culturel
