The geomorphological study of drainage basin changes can be visualized against the background of seven types of study. These include studies of morphometry, of basin characteristics and basin processes, of channel geometry, of theoretical approaches, of basin dynamics and of palaeohydrology. The magnitude of changes in process is indicated by the four-fold increase in peak flows during urbanization of a small experimental catchment. Such changes in process should have led to adjustments in size, shape and composition of channel geometry, of channel pattern and of channel networks. The effects of changes from a number of areas are summarized and channel capacity adjustment is compared above and below reservoirs and above and below urban areas. These effects demonstrate that morphological adjustments may be identified by simple field experiments and it is proposed that a closer investi? gation of the relation between channel geometry, pattern and networks may facilitate further analyses of the magnitude of fluvial landform adjustments
