This article analyses a set of oral narratives of workers who took part inthe famous 1968 metalworkers strike in Osasco. In the 1980s, during the Brazilianredemocratization process, silences and repressed memories of these workersemerged. Since 1987, I have examined these traumatized remembrances, which arevital for a specific process of identity formation.
