Hip-hop, specifically rhyme battles, can be seen as a cultural and social movement of resistance and demand for rights by a less favored part of society. However, urban culture often receives little support from the State and in 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic, the challenges faced by these actors were even more intensified. This article aimed to understand, through a case study, the performance of the collective Manifestação Cultural de Rimas (MCR), in the period from 2020 to 2021, in the context of urban participatory management, highlighting the importance of preserving this cultural manifestation and of the space it occupies in the city. The methodology adopted included: bibliographic and documentary review; case study; and field research. Throughout the analysis, we sought to demonstrate how local culture and the mobilization of its agents can be used so that these groups can manifest themselves and be included in the urban participatory management process, contributing to the city, whether through the appropriation of spaces underutilized, urban art, among other aspects
