Slam is a peripheral art of protest that belongs to Hip-Hop culture. In the region of Grande Vitória, in Espírito Santo, there are several Slams, among them Slam Xamego, which is, so far, the first and only affective Slam in the region, that is, a Slam that prioritizes affections, especially love. This study aimed to understand the affirmation of love as a device of resistance and a way of producing life for Black and peripheral youth participating in Slam Xamego, as well as the context and reasons for its creation. Additionally, it sought to explore the function of poetry about love for the Slammers and its positioning as a political statement. The methodology included semi-structured interviews and an analysis of meaning production. As a result, we understood the paths of these Black and peripheral youth towards an ethical-aesthetic-political stance on love as a form of resistance and the creation of alternative ways of existing in the city, disrupting hegemonic logic
