This article argues that 1990s rap, as a constantly re-elaborated aesthetic form, denounced necropolitics in Brazil, paving the way for a liberating intersubjective formation for the periphery. The article supports this argument through a bibliographic review and historical content, as well as a Foucauldian discourse analysis of the lyrics produced during this period, since, for Foucault, discourses can only be understood within discursive formations that are also social. The conclusion is that, beyond denunciation, rap enables the production of a critical consciousness grounded in the notion of the periphery, which announces a more diverse relationship with race, class, gender, and territory
