This article has as its main objective to analyze the ways in which coronelismo is represented in the novel Herança de Sangue: um faroeste brasileiro, published in 2012, by the contemporary author Ivan Sant'anna. Therefore, we methodologically base ourselves on bibliographical research regarding the concepts relevant to the research. Thus, the final phase of the research had as its methodology the articulation between theoretical readings and the analysis of the novel. In Herança de Sangue, there is a reconstitution of part of the history of the city of Catalão in Goiás. It is noticed that the coronelismo portrayed in the novel has similarities with what was portrayed in other literary works and that the author deepens in the treatment of these issues, in addition to mentioning aspects concerning coronelismo that are less present in historiography and literature, such as the private life of colonels, their relationship with violence and the existence of outstanding women in the context of coronelismo
