This article evaluates the suggestion, first made in 1860 and controversially developed by Mireille Huchon, that Olivier de Magny may have had some hand in the sonnets of Louise Labé. The argument proceeds in two phases. First, whereas previous scholarship has focused on Magny's Souspirs (1557), this study brings out a number of resonances between Labé's Euvres (1555) and his earlier Amours (1553). Second, whereas almost all the evidence debated in the years following Huchon's Louise Labé: une créature de papier (2006) has been documentary and archival, this essay returns to stylistic questions internal to the poems. A metrical comparison is made between Magny's sonnets and those attributed to Labé. The two poets' handling of the decasyllabic line is contextualized within the early story of the French sonnet, and compared in detail. What emerges most forcibly is the unsettling formal singularity of the Euvres de Louise Labé Lyonnaise
