Zotero and Omeka, digital tools developed by the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media, offer students, teachers, scholars, and archivists free, open-source technologies for researching, collaborating, and sharing information on the Web. Both Zotero and Omeka are supported by Web sites that provide tutorials, forums, troubleshooting guides, and plug-ins that enable users to employ the tools easily and effectively without advanced training or technical skills. Zotero is a browser-based bibliographic program that offers both cloud-based sharing of reference material and personal organization of resources, while Omeka is a Web-publishing tool that can function as an archival service as well as a means of organizing and displaying exhibits and collections. Zotero is an extension (or add-on) to the Firefox browser, which enables users to save information on books, articles, videos, and other material from within the open browser window. One click saves metadata from the site by recording available
