The search of organizations to remain visible and recognized by their audiences amidst a profusion of information has, in many situations, resulted in questionable and ineffective practices. Two research techniques were appliedbibliographic research and in-depth interviews with CEOs and communication professionalssearching for answers about the adoption of an organizational purpose could function as an element of differentiation and used in organizational communication strategies and actions. The term purpose in the context of organizations has become a business buzzword. One of the findings was that the lack of a clear definition of its constituent elements contributed to this occurring. The contribution of this work is both for the market and for academy, as it presents a proposal for definition for the term organizational purpose and proposes a system for the implementation of the purpose in organizations, in a legitimate way and that, in fact, contributes to the development of society. There is no intention, however, of presenting a closed proposal, quite the contrary, the main purpose of this dissertation is to arouse interest in the subject so that new works can evolve and improve this initial proposition
