This work analyzes the theme of technology in Gilberto Gil's trajectory, starting from a dialogue between art and politics, considering the existence of a significant set of songs in which the composer reflects on issues such as the radio, television, computers, the internet, smartphones, and others.Such themes also played a prominent role in his administration serving as Minister of Culture during the Lula government. At times composing and singing, and at times speeching on policies for culture, technology has always occupiedto a greater or lesser extentthe imagination and discourse of the artist/politician.Using song analysis as one of the main methodological resources, this research has motivated the attempt to answer the following question: does Gilberto Gil's work contain a project for the emancipation of Brazilian culture through technology? From the interdisciplinary field of Cultural Studies, this discussion resumes socio-historical contexts of the trajectory of the artist/minister with emphasis on the experience of the tropicalismo movement (late 1960searly 1970s) up until his role in the Ministry of Culture (2003Culture ( -2008)).Along the way, we unfold discussions on the fundamentals for the hermeneutics of his body of work, such as the notions of critical song and technological mediation in the context of Brazilian popular music.Divided into three chapters, with the last one containing the analyzis of the songs, this study allows the observation that the relationship between Gilberto Gil and technology was of great resonance in the field of Brazilian culture
