La presente investigación se centró en el estudio de las prácticas de la institución de salud en Colombia y la manera como estas inciden en la forma de hacer los estudios de morbilidad oral -salud bucal en el país.La institución ministerial es entendida en este marco de referencia como un conjunto de prácticas, procesos y rutinas que definen un factor de orden, de construcción de sentido que a su vez se desarrolla en un determinado entorno organizativo y que incide directamente en la actuación desarrollada por los distintos actores implicados, dirigiendo y limitando su comportamiento, pero también atribuyendo posibilidades de participación/acción a determinado tipo de profesionales que se "acoplan" con los fines últimos de la hegemonía institucional; la definición propuesta permite dar respuesta a la pregunta institutions -in this case the Ministry of Health-in the production and reproduction of a particular way of understanding health phenomena and intervening on them?Therefore, it is pertinent to mention the neo-institutional approach introduced by March and Olson in 1984, which provides useful tools that allow precisely analyzing the role of the ministerial institution to understand its incidence in the modulation of their studies and research.In this work, theoretical categories taken from the neoinstitutional approach in its historical, sociological and discursive aspects are used, such as: institutional arrangements, discourse communities and path dependency, which help to explain how power relations are configured within the institution and they also highlight the so-called inertial forces, these in turn explain certain institutional moorings that determine specific ways of doing, thinking and assuming oral health problems.Methodologically, this work was organized in four phases: 1) Documentary analysis of the national studies; 2) Exploration of ideas, perceptions and experiences of the actors involved in the National Studies, approached through a semi-structured interview and an in-depth interview to explore aspects related to the design, methodology, results of the studies and the participation of different actors in the mentioned studies; 3) Phase of analysis, integration of sources, interpretation, synthesis and conclusions; and finally, 4) Preparation and support of the final research report
