of São Paulo (MAM SP), besides to reflecting on the concept of University Museum of History of Art intended at the time of the birth of MAC-USP.This research falls within the scope of the review of the history of museological institutions, since the MAC USP was founded during the 1960s, the same moment when the university became responsible for a set of historical-artistic collections of great relevance, with the creation of its statutory museums.The creation of MAC USP is understood here as the result of an attempt to incorporate MAM SP and part of the modernization process of the country in which the University registered as an exponent
