This paper aims to study the processes of production, appropriation and semanticization in the area of Guarulhos undertaken by agents from different classes and cultures that (re)configure their histories and future, besides the meanings of Guarulhos as a "city" or a complex of differential localities. We presume that these agents are significant because of the result their action causes in Guarulhos, but we also believe that their actions are related to national economic policies. This perspective considers as the main protagonists of these processes the business sectors with their multiple ramifications, the State in its different leveis of organization and the diverse social groups that participate in the market and civil rights excluded from them. This is, therefore, a historical and social study on transformations and continuances in the configurations, uses and meanings of a delimited territory, whose occupation, exploitation and identity have been redefined in an accelerated radicalism
