The music band, also known in Brazil as philharmonic, lyra, musical corporation or retreta, is a socio-cultural phenomenon originated and developed along the 19th century -initially with the military band as model -that rapidly spread throughtout European metropolises and subsequently in the colonies, still remains active in many cities. From the repertoire that brazillian bands cultivate along 200 years, certainly the dobrado has a relevant position, even thought the difficulty the musicology has in dealing with this genuine brazillian band genre. From the dobrado played at the end of the 19th century by bands in the city of São Luiz do Paraitinga, in the Vale do Paraíba of São Paulo, this work discusses the writing, with its generalities and specificities, as well as the relationships between the musical text, the modes of production and social reproduction, evidenced in the musical discourse. This is shown through the acknowledgment of the existence of a socio-communicative network which puts together symbolic elements from other environments, such as the military march, the opera, the modinha, the cantabile and the brilliant styles and the expressions of the local cultures. To analyze these contacts, we use tools of musical signification and relate them to the discussions that involve the processes of transculturation, revealing hermeneutical possibilities, from which future researchs that consider the band, its repertoire and the community are made possible
