The objective of this research project is to document the insertion and learning processes of two music groups formed by women acting in spaces that were formerly considered male dominated. The aim is to present the origin and development of two groups: Lakitas Matriasaya in Chile and Ilú Obá de Min in Brazil in their respective contexts and, in particular, what pertains to the transformation of those spaces as a form of female empowerment through the creation of a new conception of their musical traditions. This study seeks to define the principal motives for the creation of said women's spaces, identify their practices in the urban context, their relationship with their communities, as well as their permanence and continuity over time, as they are strengthened from the individual to the collective levels and how they transform their reality and musical practices. For this purpose, a qualitative and descriptive investigation was executed focusing on comparative methodology to identify the similarities and differences between these groups in the urban context, both confluences and divergences. Therefore, to obtain data, the main point of entry was ethnographic interviews. In addition, participant observation and field diaries compliment the reflective character of the study, to facilitate the understanding of the social subjects, in this case, the women flautists and percussionists, as well as; the meaning of the music and the deconstruction of some dichotomies, not only in the social realm. This investigation seeks to reveal the researcher's perspective to understand the motivations and mechanisms that women use to insert themselves specifically in these musical spaces and how they can serve as tools for strengthening women and women's solidarity, as well as a means of cultural dissemination in the urban context
