The aim of this doctoral thesis is to explain the continuity and ruptures of Walter Benjamin's critique of myth developed in the 1920s and 1930s.In this sense, first, it will be presented how the concept of criticism formulated by Benjamin in Ursprung des deutschen Trauerspiel remains the same in his later work. Then, it will be presented how the concept of myth transforms itself during these decades. In the 1920s, the concept of myth takes the form of natural history. For Benjamin, this form of myth corresponds to the presupposition that history is driven by a demonic physis, which origin dates back to seventeenth-century Baroque literature. In the 1930s, the concept of myth takes the form of cultural history. This form of myth corresponds to the presupposition that history is driven by a demonic téchne, which origin goes back to the nineteenth-century concept of progress. These two concepts of myth are both different forms of social domination highlighted by Benjamin
