-- The inventories contained in processes of the Holy Office are a relevant source for the study of material culture, since they present us the presence of patrimonies containing houses, lands, furniture, household textiles, food, kitchen utensils, porcelain, jewelry, weapons, money, instruments of labor and raw materials, slaves, animals, books, musical instruments and objects of worship and devotion of people from various social groups, as the recent historiography has shown. In this study, the proposal is to use these sources to perceive the type of stores and their fillings, as well as the treatment that was carried out by the Portuguese new Christians in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. KEYWORDS: material culture, merchant, Inquisition, Portugal, 17-18 centuries
