In this dissertation we study the demarcation of the Krῖkati Indigenous Land (IL), located in the Brazilian state of Maranhão.Through a discussion on the concepts of land, territory, territoriality and (de)territorialization, we engage in a reflection on the meanings and consequences of the demarcation of an indigenous land, understood as a movement that scrutinize the land (or Land) according to the property-led modern-occidental perspective. We develop an ethnographic research on the demarcatory process conducted by the Brazilian indigenous authority (Funai), investigating the actions taken by the State to establish the boundaries and to overshadow the multiplicity of elements present in the indigenous land(s).Throughout the research the initiatives and actions of the indigenous peoples themselves emerge as an important factor in the constitution of these lands. We try to understand what the bureaucratic processes reveal and, thus, what they hide about the constitution of an IL, leading one to think on the role that the anthropologists can play in the demarcation processes
