The author argues that all temporal (epi-)phenomena are grounded in the fact of a "creative advance into novelty," which includes (1) that genuine novelty appears in the world, (2) that past events do not completely vanish (their ontological status is changed, lowered , so to speak), and (3) that there is an upward trend in terms of the "intensity" or "value" of experience. Five steps structure this paper: a short introduction to Whitehead's blend of process thought; a contrasted specification of Whiteheadian creative advance and its three characters-creativity, efficacy, and vision; and, in conclusion, a meditation on the question of common sense
