Since then, salvage excavations have continued unabated and have already added new details to our knowledge of the Late Bronze Age and Iron Age communities that are at the heart of this study.I have, however, resisted the temptation to postpone publication for yet another time-consuming phase of collecting and incorporating the new data and updating the tables and appendices. The main reason is that there are as yet no indications that the most recent discoveries require changes to the interpretations and models proposed here. The text has been altered in minor ways, some omissions have been rectified, and the bibliography has been updated. As is probably the case with all studies that go back to dissertation research, a large group of people have contributed invaluable information, suggestions and support for the development of the ideas presented here.I would like to express my gratitude to them all.First and foremost, special thanks go to my dissertation advisor and promotor
