Throughout the 2010s, there has been a noticeable rise in the right-wing movement worldwide. The current president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, who has publicly declared himself a fan of Donald Trump, is a strong representation of this wave. The Brazilian politician used former US president-like communication techniques both during the presidential campaign and while in office. The dissertation explores how both politicians approximate their communicational strategies, using a particular political language, which include inserting their figures into mainstream traditional media and making significant use of digital media. It aims to characterize extreme right-wing (or authoritarian) populism as well as the extremist and populist nature of Trump's and Bolsonaro's communicative discourses. In terms of methodology, the work conducts a review of the literature on the communication and trajectory of Trump and Bolsonaro, both separately and in relation to one another, along with a discussion of the central ideas of the work: populism, extreme right populism, and the connection between these ideas and communication. The analysis's findings suggest that the politicians fit the description of far-right populists and that, despite their many discursive similarities, there are significant variances to take into account that clearly define their political identities. They relate to contextual and even biographical aspects of both, such as how they establish a crisis setting for which they present themselves as a solution
