The thesis "State and Urbanization in Brazil: Housing Policies in the Western Amazon in Boa Vista /RR (1943 -1988)" presents an analysis of the State's role in urbanization and the production of social housing in the capital of the state of Roraima, Boa Vista, identifying how the national housing policy was implemented in the specific temporal contexts of a triple-border Amazonian region in the far north of the country, during the period of the Federal Territory. The raised hypothesis is that state housing and the Urban Plan of Boa Vista, produced within the dynamics of urbanization between 1943 and 1988, constituted part of the State's action aimed at the occupation of the Amazon, particularly the Western Amazon, within the scope of an expansionist strategy of capital from the period of the Federal Territory until its incorporation as a state, a federative entity, in the Federal Constitution. This is historical research, based on historiographical review and documentary and source analysis, in the search for understanding the economic, social, and political processes related to the occupation of the Amazon, the state of Roraima, and the capital Boa Vista, as well as the social processes related to the strategies for intensifying urbanization and the production of state housing in the period between 1943-1988.The study raises and articulates the State's actions and the economic planning of the Amazon, in policies, programs, plans, and actions, with effects in the Western Amazon, in urbanization and the production of social housing in Boa Vista between 1943 and 1988, focusing on the following topics: the State and urbanization in the Western Amazon; the Urban Plan of Boa Vista (PUBV); housing policies in the Western Amazon: Boa Vista from 1943 to 1988.The research places the Federal Territory within the framework of the Amazon, which passes through both of Getúlio Vargas' governments (1930-1945; 1951-1954) and the military governments , responsible for a set of strategies aimed at expanding the Amazonian borders to occupy the considered geographic void and promote the exploitation of the region's wealth.Emphasis is placed on the process of implementing the Urban Plan of Boa Vista (UPBV), designed by engineer Darcy Aleixo Derenusson in 1946, which served as the basis for the construction of the third planned capital city during the republican period in Brazil, denoting the State's action in encouraging urbanization, occupation, and delimitation of the border, stimulating the migration process in a manner linked to local political processes and economic cycles, which intensely characterize the entire studied period, and more specifically, the 1970s and 1980s.As a result of the research, it is observed that in these decades, precisely during the period of the national housing policy of the National Housing Bank (NHB), the greatest production of state housing complexes in the Federal Territory occurred, and in an inertial manner, in the period immediately following the extinction of the NHB in 1986
