All translations from Spanish to English are mine. 2 As a geographical and natural region, Patagonia is divided into two very distinct areas. From the Colorado River south to the upper half of Tierra del Fuego, between the Andes and the Atlantic ocean, rests the Patagonian eastern plateau, which is cold, dry, and extremely windy. This plateau represents 25% of Argentina's national territory. Along Argentina's west border and occupying the southern half of Chile run the Patagonian mountains, which are covered by a temperate rainforest and have spectacular lakes and massive glaciers. Both areas have generated their own series of representations. In this essay I will limit myself to the images associated with the Patagonian plains. 3Simon Schama.
