In 2017 "tourismophobia" rise was a trending topic in public debate, especially in summer.This question is here investigated from the identification and exploration of the mainstream mass media discourses.For this purpose, a sample of 40 news items published in different newspapers is analysed.The purpose of the study is to clarify the true potential of the concept as a heuristic tool to guide tourism research.This paper aims to contribute to the development of an analytical framework as a starting point to think, define and guide the study of "tourismophobia
