He is chairman of the American Indian Studies program and has developed an American Indian Policy Studies concentration in the field of political science. He serves on the board of directors of the Field Foundation, the Indian Rights Association, and the board of trustees of the Museum of the American Indian. He serves as consultant to numerous groups, tribes and organizations active in the field of Indian rights. He has published numerous books, including Custer Died For Your Sins and We Talk, You Listen
