The dairy activity contributes to the rural economic development of a region, thus promoting an increase in family income. However, this activity is influenced by factors such as productivity and product quality, where seasonal differences triggered by changes in temperature and humidity during the year influence the quantity and composition of milk. The objective was to evaluate the influence of seasonality on the chemical composition of milk.Data were collected monthly from a cooperative of small producers in the west of Santa Catarina (2020).Variables such as fat, protein, lactose, total solids and defatted dry extract were analyzed by analysis of variance, where the means, when significant, were compared using the Tukey method.A significance level of 5% was used.Protein contents showed a significant difference, with the highest value in July (3.12 g/100g) and the lowest in January and February, reflecting the lack of rain in the previous semester. The defatted dry extract indexes also showed a significant difference, with the highest indexes in the months from January to August (8.59;8.60 and 8.61 g/100g) and the lowest in May and November (8.21 and 8.26 g/100g).The defatted dry extract content was able to illustrate the seasonality in the production of pastures, as well as serve as a warning to producers and professionals in the area to seek to supply these periods with improvements in forage reserves
