This article presents an overview of the hallmark characteristics of four kinds of scholarship on and about fat and fatness, allowing the reader to recognise the areas in which they overlap and in which they differ. It explores the history of Fat Studies as an academic discipline and considers the challenges and opportunities going forward. It concludes with a demonstration that the field of Fat Studies scholarship is that most appropriate for the study of the fat body
