This article aims at applying a omparative analysis between Argentina and Mexico, to see in depth the impact of the pandemic on tourism policies of national significance implemented by Latin Ameri- can governments. The analysis was based on a review of the existing literature, the press and documentaries. Likewise, several semi-structured interviews were onducted with public officials and academics. The results reveal that although these two countries started out with similar commitments, with a clear prevalence in the sectoral agenda of policies towards promoting inbound tourism international), these scenarios changed dramatically and diverged after the spread of Covid-19. The reasons for these changes and divergences were many and different, some of which are highlighted in the study, some internal (health strategies and tourism policies implemented in the context of emergency, impact of tourism on national macroeconomics) and others external (outbound travel markets, start of the vaccination process and economic impact of the health emergency
