The objective of this article is to address the historical contextualisation of rural tourism in Mexico, within the framework of socio-structural change and its territorial manifestations. Analysis was applied from the theoretical-methodological perspective of problem-history posed by Erik Hobsbawm, who focuses his analytical interest on the history of structures and transformations in societies and cultures. It was concluded that, although several authors have made historical traceability on the deployment of public policies in Mexico, which impacted on agrarian and tourism issues, it is still necessary to focus on the communities where these interventions took place and account for the changes and modifications that have been generated as a result of the new economic dynamics inserted in the territory, which gave rise to the so-called New Ruralities
