This paper analyses how to use archaeological sites linked to pre -colonial traditions in Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) for tourism. Using the qualitative approach, it presents and discusses empirical and bibliographical data on previous tourist activity at the sites that are integrated into various commercialised tourism circuits. The discussion of the cases shows the importance of private initiatives and tthe importance of tourism toward consolidation of certain measures. In Rio Grande do Sul, archaeological tourism is prominent in marked sites of historical importance but is also being promoted in some pre -Colonial sites. Archaeological tourism in Brazil is seen as a possible enhancement of the value of our archaeological heritage in the world
