The article tries to follow the critical production of Guy Brett since its beginning in the middle of the 1960's throughout its development until the 21st century, underlying his belief in the equation of formal experimentation and political engagement. In the process he was able to incorporate both avant--garde production and popular craftsmanship, dealing with the combination of love and insubordination to foster creative liberty
