This article seeks to analyze the implementation of less lethal weapons in the Colombian National Police from 2000 to 2021. It is a fact that their use has been increasing, as well as the conflicts resulting from the application of force in social mobilization scenarios. For this work, the functions and limits of the use of less lethal weapons and their rise are addressed, as well as the international regulatory framework that guides its implementation, the rules of use and classification in Colombia, especially training and some jurisprudential and expert positions on the implementation of less lethal weapons in the country. Regarding the methodology, qualitative techniques such as documentary análisis and semi-structured interview were used. Also, the quantitative technique of analysis of aggregate data on training and instruction in the use of less lethal weapons was used. The conclusions indicate that the implementation of this type of weapons is a necessity within the Rule of Law, but their use requires rigorous training, which involves not only technical aspects of the weapons themselves, but also substantial ones related to human and fundamental rights
