Architectural preservation, scientific investigation, and visitor interpretation are three facets of the Bureau of Land Management's Pueblo Devol Project at a large, late prehistoric cliff dwelling in the eastern Arizona uplands. Fragile architectural features and archaeological deposits have been stabilized without diminishing the site's research potential. Ongoing research indicates that Pueblo Devol was built and occupied by people using cliff dwelling construction techniques and a canyon-focused agricultural strategy with probable roots in the Four Corners. An interpretive program explaining the project will foster public awareness of the multiple values embodied in Pueblo Devol and encourage visitor participation in efforts to preserve and investigate other archaeological sites
